Birdlife Australia

Non-Profit *
Brand Guidelines

For over 120 years Birdlife Australia has been at the national forefront of bird conservation. Their community of 300,000 loyal supporters, unmissable campaigns and plethora of online resources create a large platform for change.

In this deliverable I produced an overhaul of the Birdlife Australia brand guidelines. This composed of not only providing a more thorough instruction toolkit of brand asset applications but redirecting how these be applied. It was key to make the guidelines copywriting and content coherent so internal Birdlife Australia teams are able to keep a consistent brand identity while educating audiences and external partners.

Newlife Studios

Apparel *
Logo Design

This logo design and 3D animation was part of a rebrand rollout for Newlife Studios, a platform to showcase and empower emerging fashion designers in Aotearoa. The name 'Newlife Studios' embodies their commitment to sustainability. This is reflected by their promotion of up-cycling materials and fashion industry waste to create wearable works of art.

It was key that Newlife Studios logo harnessed brand values of community, creation and turning old into new. We took a direction of a minimal, distressed aesthetic as this not only embodies their up-cycling brand value, but also compliments the grunge, loose fit of the garments.

Mise

Web Development

Mise is all about 'living in,' transitioning between the beach and beyond'. Communicating and reflecting this authentic lifestyle in an online digital realm required many steps to engage the right audience. Through Website Design and Development I aimed to provide a seamless shopping experience that compliments the soft brand language and highlights the swimwear form.

Through custom backend coding on Shopify I designed many unique interactive elements that not only support product browsing experiences but also engage beyond competitors.

During early stages I had also directed some of the Mise Brand Identity. This involved deciding on the Magda typeface which effectively reflects the crafty detail that goes into each Mise wear. The irregular nature of each letterform also evokes a sense of natural terrain that you would see from a body of sand, combined with it all being monospaced, it strikes a unique balance of Mise's unique and beautiful character.

Ka-bucha

Product *
Brand  & Web Development

In this campaign I designed and 3D rendered the packaging design for an alcoholic kombucha drink ‘Ka-bucha!’. To communicate a clean and expressive aesthetic all elements have a unique and minimal sharp style. Each graphic asset was applied in a meticulous manner that complimented the brand identity. Since this project had to be conducted during lockdown all scenes were 3D rendered and fabricated in scenes that express the ‘freshness’ of the drink flavour.

To promote and further enhance the Ka-bucha beverage experience I transferred all product design onto a coded HTML, CSS & Javascript website. By learning and utilising these coding languages (specifically Javascript) it opened up opportunities that current website builders don’t offer. As end-users scroll down the site they can rotate the Ka-bucha beverage can, this allows the ability to anaylse the product online rather than in-store (this is important during a time such as the Covid-19 lockdown).

Campaigns & Marketing Design

Before I moved over onto Australian soil I had worked for oOh!media’s team studio in New Zealand. In this team we had three members and together we formed unmissable and eye catching special builds for public spaces. Specifically my area covered all things creative - mocking up concepts, proposals, campaign ideation, client discussions and brainstorms sessions. I would also design for other teams in marketing,  touch ups for sales and commercial operations.

To get a full understanding of what goes behind creating large scale special builds, I would often go help activate and install these campaigns on-site too.

Typografika 22'

Events *
Poster Design

Typografika is an annual conference for type and typography. For this brief I was set to make a poster and an informational 16-panel page. Attendee’s would be handed this at the start of the event to guide them through the 12 day talks and workshops.

Perennial Festival

Brand Identity & Collateral

In this campaign I developed assets for an online festival. This was aimed to bring people together to celebrate music and art while in the COVID-19 lockdown. As the pandemic had caused people to become separated I proceeded to find a solution that could bring people together again. I created three immersive 3D worlds to give attendee’s variations of worlds to step into to experience and explore. These 3D visual assets helped craft digital and physical collateral that would be used to promote the online festival itself.

(essentially this was the idea of a metaverse before the metaverse was a thing!)

organic_texture.1

From 2020-2022 I had developed experiemental films based on slitscanning. It’s a very unusual effect that essentially utilises a videos frame-rate to displace time. Through this experience I became quite advanced at Adobe After Effects and Premiere Pro. I even learnt how to take advantage of cloud-rendering services as these videos would take 100+ hours to render.

A couple years ago I developed multiple 16mm films, both of these being filmed on the 1940’s Bolex camera. Similar to my previous film photography I aim to make 16mm films experimental as I like focusing on particular angles, compositions and stills.

These compositions usually turn out with heavy contrast and a unique authenticity. Every outcome can differ depending on the handprocessing and developing method.
